Dutch Double Victory at Verden (11.08.2009)

Dutch Double Victory at Verden – Westpoint World Champion, Angelique Hoorn wins Great Prize

(Verden) It was the day of „Oranje boven“ at the International Dressage and Show-Jumping Festival at Verden. The black KWPN stallion Westpoint by Jazz out of a dam by Michelangelo delivered the first headline. With a total mark of 9.0 the shiny black became World Champion of six-year-old dressage horses and made his rider Emmelie Scholtens beam with happiness. To her the win of the title was very emotional, as the young rider had her last ride for Larakkers Stable on Westpoint at Verden. Scholtens is going to set up her own and hopes that the partnership will be continued: “Maybe I can ride him also in the future. I never believed that I would win here. Last year we were on 36th place.”

The judges certified Westpoint the best walk in the WCh and gave a 9.0, for his canter he even received a 9.5. Second and third place went to Germany. To the Hanoverian stallion Florinero by Fürst Heinrich – A Jungle Prince (8.72), presented by Dorothee Schneider (Wiesbaden) and to the Vice World Champion of 2008, the Trakehner stallion Imperio by Connery – Balfour xx (8.42) with Anna-Sopie Fiebelkorn (Verden). After winning silver in the class for five-year-olds Fiebelkorn was happy with the bronze medal: „Only ten days ago Imperio finished his breeding season and was much in demand. I am very satisfied with our result.“

The World Championships for Young Dressage Horses and the International Dressage and Show-Jumping Festival at Verden/Aller attracted over 42,000 spectators. An international audience watched the WCh and this will also be the case in the next couple of years. The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) decided already last year that this most important championship for young dressage horses will be held at Verden until 2012. Head organizer Rainer Kiel stated that the concept of the organising committee – Verdener Turniergesellschaft mbH - proved right. The mix of international sports, WCh, the big Verden show evening where the stadium was filled completely and the Verden Country Days had a magnetic attraction and underlined Verden`s reputation as riders` town.

British rider Emma Hindle and Lancet won the Grand Prix Special at Verden. Hindle belongs to the British team for the European Championships at Windsor. On second place Susanne Lebek (Germany) on Potomac beamed with joy. Lebek now belongs to the German team for the ECh.

Angelique Hoorn unbeatable

The Great Prize of the riders` town Verden – endowed with 25,000 Euros – delivered the second headline of the day. Angelique Hoorn, Dutch candidate for the European Championships at Windsor, and her eight-year-old Dutch chestnut mare Fabels whizzed over the fences and had a clear round in 42.54 seconds. There even Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (Germany) and her Hanoverian mount Checkmate did not get a look-in and came in second. Lively 14-year-old gelding Checkmate underwent a form test because he is just as Shutterfly nominated for the European Championships and federal trainer Otto Becker is not going to send the final nomination until the last second. Third place in the Great Prize of the Riders`s town Verden – in memoriam Hans-Günter Berner – also went to The Netherlands to the Team World and European Champion Jeroen Dubbeldam and his mount BMC Van Grunsven Simon.
